Backing as support, as aid and background, as the foundation of a relationship.

Within a relationship, whatever its nature, a key element is the ability to support each other, every day, unconditionally, sharing both small and large burdens. “Backing” explores the positive and negative cause/effect dynamics of mutual support, a bond that exists from the very first moment and thrives on the constant presence of the other. As a relationship matures over time, it faces different situations and dynamics, from the simplest to the most complex, and even the smallest gesture matters, no matter how imperceptible compared to obvious acts of support. Contemporary dance, especially “contact,” allows us to physically express what is communicated verbally and experienced in daily life—a continuous and deep sharing. Thus emerges the search for a balance that lies at the center of the two bodies, as well as the total support of one or the other and, as a result, mutual reliance. Sharing one’s weight (bodily, in this case) allows for the staging of common, frequent, and sometimes underestimated dynamics. But what happens if this is missing? If it doesn’t receive the importance it deserves? “Backing” translates the absence of support into feelings of confusion, imbalance, and loss. Finding oneself again means reflecting, talking again, regaining awareness of the weight of supporting another person, of the mark it leaves; it is synonymous with confrontation, honesty, and rediscovery. A duet that thus emphasizes the importance of the other, within relationships, every day, for those who live it and those who watch.
