“Hinterland Dance Theatre” is a Contemporary Dance company born from the need of choreographer Fernando Pasquini to embark on his own creative journey, alongside his existing roles as dancer and teacher. Hinterland, in its works, expresses itself through a language that blends research on the physics of the body and the deep connection it has with its inner world, a connection that is further explored in training through Feel&Move, an approach developed in parallel with the aim of achieving physical and emotional instinctiveness.
Among the company's latest productions are “Lost” (2023), an inner journey of a woman searching for herself, and “Backing” (2022), a duet that highlights the importance of the other in relationships. Both were presented to the public in their first study, respectively in 2023 and 2022, during the “Festival Danza x4”, organized by A.R.CO danza, the association of professional dance companies of Veneto, which supports emerging choreographers. Both pieces have been selected to participate in “Premis Orbita” (2025), an international Contemporary Dance competition based in Reus (ES). “Backing”, which continues to be performed locally, also won the Production Award at the “Vetrine Coreografiche” Contest held during the VI edition of the Sabaudia Dance Festival. In 2021 “Time – The Connection” debuted at Medoacus (VI) with its first study.
2021 ended with an artistic residency at Twain Center for Dance and Performing Arts Production and Residency, in the Lazio region, where the second study of the latest production began, in collaboration with Loredana Parella and Yoris Petrillo. In 2018, “Confidence” was created by and with Fernando Pasquini and Margherita Zazzera, debuting at the “Dimissioni Festival” in Milan. 2017 was the year of “Dis – Connessi”, a workshop with a selected group for the Free Harmony Dance Time school. In the same year, the company was in residence at Free Harmony Dance Time and Chòrea Art Studio.
“Maybe the wolf has horns”, the company's new production dealing with the relationship between man, culture, and superstition, originated in autumn 2015, then debuted with a first study in February 2016 at Kitchen Teatro Indipendente in Vicenza. The national premiere of the show is set for June 21, 2016 at the Pavullo Danza Festival (MO).
From 2015 to 2016, Hinterland was in artistic and operational residency at Kasadanza (VI). In 2015, the company was selected for the Cantiere Giovani Nuovi Autori project by OFFicinaTwain Centro Promozione Culturale Regione Lazio and, since 2014, has been supported and produced by Cie Twain physical dance theatre, a Dance Production Company supported by MiBACT – Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
In June 2014, the first study of “Bricks” debuted, a piece focused on couple relationship issues and the need for balance. “Bricks” was performed again the following year, with the second study, as part of the ArteVen Supporter project, first at Teatro Toniolo in Mestre and then at Teatro Comunale in Vicenza. In 2013, “Ama – Deus” was created, a work rooted in the analysis of dreams and the madness of an artist; the show debuted at the Danza In Vetrina festival in Treviso.
Also from 2013 is “Solo Parole”, which deals with relationships and interconnections between people, addressing the theme of the loss of empathy in our society. In 2012, HDT produced its first performance, titled “Re-Birth”, an autobiographical work focused on the author's personal rebirth after a difficult and critical period. The performance premiered nationally at Teatro Novelli in Rimini.
